Golf legend Jack Nicklaus, along with his wife Barbara, were one of the unfortunate people, who have tested positive for the coronavirus. Nicklaus announced on Sunday during the CBS telecast for the Memorial that the couple previously dealt with the virus in March.

He said that his wife Barbara had no symptoms despite the positive test. He dealt with a sore throat and a cough.

The legend said that they got the virus around March 13th in Florida and recovered from the virus approx. April 20th.

“It didn’t last very long, and we were very, very fortunate, very lucky,” Nicklaus said. “Barbara and I are both of the age, both of us 80 years old, that is an at-risk age. Our hearts go out to the people who did lose their lives and their families. We were just a couple of the lucky ones.”

The Memorial Tournament was founded by Nicklaus in 1976. It has been hosted for the last 44 years.

The location for the tournament is Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio near Columbus, Ohio.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Memorial was played with no fans in attendance. Nicklaus shared his diagnosis during a weather delay in action.

Tiger Woods — another golf legend — said that he knew about Nicklaus’ positive test ‘for some time’ before it was announced.

“The fact that they got through it and they’re safe and here and healthy, it’s all good news for all of us, who are a part of golf and who looked up to Jack and 9have0 been around Barbara all these years.”

Spain’s Jon Rahm won the event with a -8 under par. He had a three stroke win over Ryan Palmer.

He was the first non American to win since 2015 when David Lingmerth from Sweden won. He had a -15 under par and won in a playoff over Justin Rose.

Traditionally, Rahm would shake hands with Nicklaus after winning the Memorial. However, this year due to the coronavirus, shaking hands has been replaced with fist bumps.

“I’ve been dreaming of that handshake many times,” Rahm said. “Well, it was a fist bump because of the situation, but still, how many people can say they got a congratulatory fist bump from Jack Nicklaus?”
