The New York Mets claim that they do not know where outfielder Yoenis Cespedes. He did not report to the team for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
The Mets do not know where their slugger is. But we do know that he played in Saturday’s game against the Braves.
“As of game time, Yoenis Céspedes has not reported to the ballpark today,” the Mets said in a statement. “He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence. Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.”
Céspedes was the team’s designated hitter in the Mets 7-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night. The game was played at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
During the game, he was hitless, as he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the loss.
He has struggled this season. Céspedes has gone 5-for-31 on the season with a .161 batting average with two home runs and four RBIs with three runs scored in the first nine games of the season.
Céspedes also has two walks and 15 strikeouts as the team’s designated hitter.
He is in the final year of his contract with the Mets. Back in January, the team restructured his contract after he missed the entire 2019 season due to an incident with a wild boar at his property.
When Céspedes hit a home run on Opening Day, it was his first MLB home run since July 2018.
