The Gulf Western Oils Winternationals scheduled for the weekend of Sept. 17-20 at Willowbank Raceway in Ipswich, Australia has been cancelled. This cancellation was due to a lack of competitors being able to travel to Willowbank Raceway.
There are restrictions in place around Australia — much like around the world — due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Presently, the borders are closed between Victoria and Queensland.
“The Board is very disappointed with having to make this decision,” the Facebook post said. “But in order to host the truly national event, all states should be represented and this is not achievable under the current circumstances. The Board has determined that any competitor that has been entered into this year’s event will be offered a transfer of their entry fee to next year’s event with no price increase applied for any competitor that accept this offer.”
Spectators, who also purchased tickets, will also be offered a credit towards next year’s event. Like the competitors, there will be no price increase for the spectators, who purchased 2020 tickets.
Willowbank Raceway will reach out to the competitors and ticket holders over the next several weeks to provide them with the details available to them.
“Those ticket holders that retain their tickets for the 2021 Gulf Western Oils Winternationals will also have, as an added bonus, the benefit of being granted exclusive access to purchase tickets to attend this new event being added to our calendar,” the Facebook post said. “This bonus [event] will allow them to purchase tickets, prior to going on sale to the general public, under the limited capacity COVID-19 restrictions, which remain in place.”
