Derrick Lewis is one of the scariest heavyweights in the UFC. He is a knockout artist that can end the fight at any moment.
Lewis defeated Alexey Oleynik in the main event of the UFC Fight Night 174 event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight was stopped in the second round as Lewis won via technical knockout.
With the win, Lewis has now won three straight bouts. He’s now going to be mentioned as a potential candidate to fight the winner of Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier next week.
In the last UFC rankings, Lewis was the fourth-ranked heavyweight. Cormier was the first, behind Miocic, who is the reigning champion. Francis Ngannou and Curtis Blaydes were ranked second and third.
It’ll be interesting to see what Dana White and his matchmakers will do next with the heavyweight division.
The Houston, Texas native is now 24-7-1 in his MMA career. He now has 19 knockouts with one submission win and four decision wins.
He has not lost since he was defeated by Junior dos Santos at UFC Fight Night 146 on March 9, 2019. Lewis defeated Blagoy Ivanov and Ilir Latifi by decision before the knockout win over Oleynik.
This was Lewis’ first TKO (Punches) win since he defeated Shamil Abdurakhimov at UFC Fight Night 102 on December 9, 2016.
Oleynik — who has one of the most insane records for an MMA fighter — fell to 59-14-1 in his MMA career. This is just the eighth time that he has been knocked out in his career.
He was last defeated by TKO (Punches) by Alistair Overeem on April 20, 2019. His last loss before this one to Lewis came in a loss to Walt Harris at UFC on ESPN 4 on July 20, 2019.
Before this loss to Lewis, he was on a two-fight win streak.
