Smith claims 39th No. 1 qualifier at the Dodge Indy Nationals

Denso Spark Plus Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Matt Smith is the No. 1 qualifier on Saturday at the Dodge NHRA Indy Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana. The King, North Carolina native went 6.807 at 199.23 mph to claim the top spot.

This is Smith’s 39th career No. 1 qualifier. With his pass, he set a new track record with the elapsed time record.

“I think the [two qualifying sessions] makes it better for our team,” said Smith.  “We’re normally pretty good for the first two runs. You give these guys four runs and a lot of people catch up to us a lot more often so I’m pretty happy with having just two runs.”

Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Eddie Krawiec is the No. 2 qualifier. The Danville, Indiana native went 6.817 at 199.08 mph.

Flyin’ Ryan Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Ryan Oehler is the No. 3 qualifier. The Bloomington, Illinois native went 6.840 at 197.71 mph.
