The NHRA has had to announce another speculation on Monday. This time around, they have announced that the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway have been canceled.

The event was supposed to take place August 28-30 in the revised NHRA schedule due to the current coronavirus pandemic. The governing body said that this was a difficult decision to make after exhaustive deliberation with the track, health, and government officials in Georgia.

At this time, there is no make up date for the 2020 season. Nor has there been an announcement for a makeup date at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana.

The 40th anniversary NHRA Southern Nationals will now be competed during the 2021 season.

“It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway,” Kasey Coler, vice president of track management and operations, said. “This tough decision was made following numerous discussions with our stakeholders regarding the ability to host and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the race. Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, we would not be able to provide the event a proper platform to honor and celebrate this historic anniversary.”

If you purchased tickets for this race, the NHRA will be in contact with you in the near future. Those, who purchased tickets, are encouraged to visit NHRA.com to learn about their ticket options.

With the NHRA Southern Nationals being canceled, the next event on the schedule is the prestigious DENSO Spark Plugs U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana.

Following the U.S. Nationals, the rest of the schedule on the road is up in the air.
