Free agent combat sports veteran Paige VanZant has signed a contract with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship. The Philadelphia, Pa.-based business signed a fighter, who is 8-5.

UFC President Dana White allowed VanZant to walk after her contract expired following her loss to Amanda Ribas on July 11th. Ribas won in a first-round submission win at UFC Fight Island at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

When VanZant fought Ribas, it was her first fight in more than a year and a half. Her previous fight was in January 2019.

“I could not be more excited to finally share this news,” VanZant said on Instagram. “Today is day one on my new crazy journey. Thank you so much to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship for bringing me into the team. Let’s make magic!”

In her nine-fight UFC career, she went 5-4. Besides the loss to Ribas, she also lost to Jessica-Rose Clark, Michelle Waterson, and Rosa Namajunas.

VanZant had wins over Kailin Curran, Felice Herrig, Alex Chambers, Bec Rawlings, and Rachael Ostovich. Her last win in the promotion came against Ostovich.

The 26-year-old Sparks, Nevada fighter fought for a promotion outside of the UFC for the first-time since 2013. At Bush Cree Promotions Cage Wars 15, VanZant defeated Courtney Himes by Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) in the first-round  at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colorado.

One competitor that VanZant previously fought is already in BKFC. Rawlings is signed by the company.

There is some speculation that VanZant will make her debut in November. That has not been confirmed yet.

Unlike the UFC, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is only accepted in several states in the United States. Their next event is Saturday, August 29, 2020 in Wichita, Kansas.
