He signed a five-year extension that kicks in with the 2021 season. Kittle was set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
With this extension, he’s getting paid $75 million over five seasons. He’ll receive $40 million in case of an injury and has $30 million guaranteed into his contract.
With this new extension, Kittle will average $15 million per season.
This deal has reset the tight end market. In March, the Cleveland Browns signed Austin Hooper to a four-year, $42 million contract.
The $30 million at signing is more than $12 million more than what Hooper received when he signed with the Browns.
Kittle will be the highest paid tight end in the league in 2021 when his new deal kicks in. Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski is the highest paid tight end for the 2020 season at $12 million.
For the 2020 season, Kittle will play out his rookie contract. He’s the 77th highest paid tight end in the league for the upcoming season..
Kittle is slated to make $2.69 million for the 2020 season in a base salary.
