Stipe Miocic survived a battle with former heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at the UFC 252 main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Miocic won the fight by unanimous decision.

The Ohio firefighter retained the UFC Heavyweight Championship. He won two of the three bouts in the trilogy with Cormier.

It was a controversial win, as Marc Goddard missed an eye poke by Miocic. Cormier complained to Goddard, but it did not help.

Cormier claimed that he saw black for the final two rounds of the fight. Even during his post-fight interview, he said that Goddard missed it.

Following the fight, Cormier was transported to a local hospital.

The 37-year-old Independence, Ohio native — who will turn 38 on August 19th — improved to 20-3 in his MMA career. He has now won two straight bouts, both over Cormier.

This was just Miocic’s fifth distance win in his career. His last win by decision came via a unanimous decision over Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 on Jan. 20, 2018.

Miocic — who is considered the greatest heavyweight of all-time — has not lost since July 7, 2018 when he was knocked out in the first-round by Cormier.

The 41-year-old San Jose, California native fell to 22-3-1 in his MMA career. Jon Jones was the only fighter, besides Miocic, to defeat Cormier.

This was his second decision loss in his career. His last decision loss came to Jones at UFC 182 on Jan. 3, 2015.
