Marlon “Chito” Vera defeated Sean O’Malley at the UFC co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Vera won via a knockout in the first round.

Towards the end of the fight, O’Malley suffered an injury on his foot or ankle. Vera capitalized on the injury to get the win.

“I’m a person that works hard for me, for my family, for my country, and when you work the way I work, the dreams come true,” Vera said.

At the time of this post, O’Malley’s injury is unknown at this time. However, we do know he left on a stretcher and departed the arena to go to a nearby hospital.

With the win, Vera also ties TJ Dillashaw’s record for the most finishes in the UFC bantamweight division with 8. Vera has also won six straight bouts in the bantamweight division.

Petr Yan — who defeated Max Holloway this summer — leads the bantamweight division win streak with seven.

With the win, Vera improved to 16-6-1 in his MMA career. This was Vera’s sixth knockout win in his career.

This was his first knockout win since Oct. 12, 2019 when he defeated Andre Ewell at UFC Fight Night 161. His win over O’Malley snapped a one-fight losing streak, as he lost to Yadong song at UFC on ESPN 8 by unanimous decision on May 16, 2020.

This was the first-time that O’Malley suffered a loss in his career. He was previously 12-0 in his MMA career.
