The New England Patriots have named Cam Newton as the team’s new starting quarterback for the upcoming 2020 season. In addition, Newton was one of several players, who were named team captains.

He signed a one-year deal with the team in the off-season. Before the Patriots took a gamble on Newton, the team was expected to start Jarrett Stidham. However, that will not be the case now for the second-year player.

The Patriots will have their first starting quarterback not named Tom Brady since the 2001 season. Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the off-season.

In those two games, the Panthers were 0-2. Newton went 50 of 89 for 572 yards with one interception.

In his career, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, has appeared in 125 games, including 124 starts. He has a career record of 68-55-1.

Newton has gone 2,371 for 3,980 for 29,041 yards. He has thrown 182 touchdown passes and 108 interceptions.
