The Washington Football Team has released veteran running back Adrian Peterson. He has spent the last two seasons with the team.
This is the second back that the Washington Football Team has released this off-season. Due to a domestic violence incident, Derrius Guice was previously released by the team, as well.
It’s a surprise by head coach and de facto GM Ron Rivera, as Peterson played in 31 of 32 games with the former Washington Redskins franchise. He was slated to be the team’s starting running back before the release.
The 35-year-old is one of the oldest running backs in the NFL. Being that he had a significant role last season with the former Redskins franchise, it would not be surprising if he gets hired by another team.
Peterson, who has been in the league since 2007, has been a seven-time Pro Bowler in his career. In two seasons with the Washington Football Team, he has had nearly 2,000 yards.
He appeared in 15 games, including 15 starts in 2019. He had 211 carries for 898 yards and five touchdowns. Peterson also had 17 receptions for 142 yards.
In his career, he has made 164 appearances, including 154 starts. He has had 3,036 carries for 14,216 yards and 111 touchdowns.
Peterson has had 289 receptions for 2,365 yards and six touchdowns.
