Hagan wins DSR’s 350th win

Dodge Mopar sponsored Funny Car pilot Matt Hagan has won the delayed Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals at Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana. This was a huge win for Hagan, who captured the 350th win for Don Schumacher Racing. 

This event was delayed to the U.S. Nationals due to rain that postponed the final rounds at the Summernationals.

This is Hagan’s second win of the season. He also won the NHRA’s first weekend back in July when he won the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. 

Don Schumacher Racing has won eight straight Funny Car events. The NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals was the last time that a non-DSR driver who won when Robert Hight.

“This is amazing and what a huge milestone to get for Don,” Hagan said. “I was probably as nervous as I am running for a championship because you want to get it done for Mopar. This car is running so well and (crew chief) Dickie Venables has put a great car underneath me. I’m just trying to do my job on the starting line. Don has been a big part of my career and to get a Wally on a Saturday, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

The Christiansburg, Virginia native went 3.919 at 328.54 mph over his DSR teammate Jack Beckman. The Norco, California native went 3.940 at 325.53 mph in the losing effort. 

Before this final round appearance, Hagan went 26-24 against Beckman. Hagan also was 3-2 against Beckman in previous final rounds. 

Hagan was a little quicker off of the Christmas tree, as he had a 0.059 reaction time. Beckman had a 0.061 reaction time. The Mopar sponsored driver won by 0.0237 seconds, or approximately 11 feet.
