Billy Donovan is no longer the head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder. His contract expired at the end of the season.
Instead of signing an extension, the two sides have elected to part ways. Donovan will now be eligible to sign with any NBA team, who may be interested in signing him.
The Chicago Bulls could potentially bring him in, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Bulls are nearing completion of their first round of interviews to replace former head coach Jim Boylen.

Donovan may even garner interest in going back to college basketball. He was a very successful head coach with the Florida Gators men’s basketball team before leaving to take over the Thunder’s job.
As the Gators’ head coach, he guided the team to back-to-back National Championship. Florida is the last team to win two straight national championships, as it has not happened in nearly the past 15 years since Donovan and his players were able to accomplish it.
He was 502-206 as a college basketball head coach.
The 55-year-old has led the Thunder since 2015. This season, the team went 44-28.
Oklahoma City was one of 22 teams that competed in the NBA Bubble in Orlando, Florida before the playoffs started. The Thunder made the playoffs, before being eliminated by the Houston Rockets in Game 7.
In his five seasons with the Thunder, he went 243-157 in 400 regular-season games. His best season with the team came during the 2015-16 season when he guided the team to a 55-27 regular season.
Donovan guided Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook to the Western Conference Finals. The Golden State Warriors defeated the Thunder 4-3 after seven games.

Several weeks later, Durant joined the enemy, the Warriors. He was criticized for making the money.
Following Durant’s departure, the Thunder has not won more than 49 games in a season. The team went 49-33 during the 2018-19 season.
The last four seasons have ended in first-round playoff exits. OKC was 18-23 in the playoffs under Donovan’s leadership.
