NASCAR Cup Series driver Daniel Suárez has parted ways with the Gaunt Brothers Racing team. He will finish out the season, before leaving the team.

If he remains in NASCAR’s top tier, he’ll be looking for his fourth team in the last four seasons. He spent two seasons with Joe Gibbs Racing, then went to Stewart Haas Racing and this season to the Gaunt Brothers Racing team.

“I’m extremely thankful to my entire Toyota family for everything they have done for me, especially this year,” Suarez said. “I will always be grateful to them for having my back.”

Suárez joined the Gaunt Brothers Racing in January. The team is in their first season as a full-time Cup Series team.

He is the latest driver, who is looking for a ride for the 2021 season. This list includes Bubba Wallace, Erik Jones, Corey LaJoie, and potentially Kyle Larson, who was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR in April for using a racial slur.

Tony Stewart has been support of Larson, so he could potentially replace Clint Bowyer in a Stewart Haas Racing ride in 2021. There’s already been speculation that Suárez would be the next driver at Richard Petty Motorsports.

Wallace may replace interim driver Matt Kenseth in the No. 42 for Chip Ganassi Racing.

“I have given 100% of myself to this team since day one, and I will continue to give 100% until the last lap at Phoenix,” Suárez said. “My goal has always been to win races and championships, and that will never change.”

In 2016, Suárez won the Xfinity Series Championship. Then, with the unexpected retirement of Carl Edwards, he was forced into driving for Joe Gibbs Racing for two seasons, before the ride was then filled by Jones.

“The entire team is very appreciative of the effort Daniel has put forth. He has helped build the foundation we need for next season,” Marty Gaunt said. “It’s a big jump to go from a part-time schedule to a full-time schedule, especially this season as we all dealt with the challenges of a global pandemic.”

Gaunt Brothers Racing plans to field a team in 2021.

“We’re laying important groundwork for improved goals next year that, ultimately, sets us up for success with the NextGen car in 2022,” Gaunt said. “We’re taking a methodical, long-term approach to our future and the next driver of our No. 96 Toyota will be an integral part of that development.”
