San Francisco 49ers star defensive end Nick Bosa was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. He suffered a serious leg injury.

He had to be carted off the field when a defender rolled up on him. It’s believed that Bosa may have potentially suffered a torn ACL.

The seriousness of his injury could be a tough blow for head coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. He was the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019.

Kerry Hyder is listed as the other right defensive end. Javon Kinlaw — who is a defensive tackle — may be asked to fill in as well. Bosa did not register a stat before he left the game.

The 22-year-old – who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft – had six tackles in the 49ers season opener in a 24-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He also had one quarterback hit and one forced fumble in the game.

As a rookie, Bosa appeared in 16 games, including 14 starts. He had 47 tackles, including 16 tackles for a loss and 25 quarterback hits.

He also had 9.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections.

General Manager John Lynch may be forced to make a roster move, either by signing a player off the street, or by making a trade.
