New England Patriots running back James White is dealing with a tremendous tragedy in his life. And he’s miles away from his family during this difficult time.

According to Andy Slater, White’s father Tyrone was killed in a car accident on Sunday. His mother was also in the car at the time of the accident.

She survived the crash, but is currently in critical condition at a hospital. White’s father was a captain with the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Slater says that White was informed of the accident and his father’s death. He will not play with the Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington.

No other information has been provided at this time on where the accident happened.

White is one of six players on the inactive list for the game on Sunday Night Football. Besides White, the inactive list includes Josh Uche, Korey Cunningham, Jarrett Stidham, Dalton Keene, and Myles Bryant.

The 28-year-old – who was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida – was a fourth-round draft pick by the Patriots. He spent his career in New England.

The three-time Super Bowl Champion had five carries for 22 yards in the Patriots season-opener. He also had three receptions for 30 yards.

With White out of the lineup, Head coach Bill Belichick and Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels will have to work in another player to fill in the void.
