Leah Pruett is OK. She was able to walk away from a scary crash.

During the second round of eliminations at the ninth annual NHRA Midwest Nationals presented by Pennzoil, her Mopar Top Fuel Dragster chassis broke in half at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway in Madison, Illinois. She was racing against Tony Schumacher when the crash happened.

About halfway down the track, her Top Fuel Dragster bent in half. Then, the front part of the dragster broke off in mid-air.

Once coming back to the ground, there was a violent landing. Eventually, Pruett was then able to get the capsule to a stop.

She was able to walk away from the dragster without medical attention. Pruett may be evaluated for a concussion due to the violent landing.

“2020 is a wild ride,” Pruett said on Facebook after the crash. “Thank you everyone for all your love and concern. I’m grateful to say that I’m safe and very much okay after that round two rodeo.”

This is the first-time since Larry Dixon had a violent incident that was eerily similar to Pruett’s crash that a Top Fuel Dragster has bent the way it did on Sunday. Dixon’s accident happened at the 2015 Gatornationals when he drove for Bob Vandergriff Racing.

Top Fuel Dragsters are not expected to compete again until October 17th.
