The Chicago White Sox have parted ways with manager Rick Renteria. In basic terms, he was fired.
Besides letting Renteria go, the team also fired pitching coach Don Cooper. Renteria had been the team’s manager for the past four seasons.

A search has begun to find the team’s new replacement. The White Sox management said that their next coaching staff ‘will be determined moving forward and in consultation with the team’s next manager.’
A.J. Hinch — the disgraced former Houston Astros manager, who was caught cheating — is likely the front runner for the position, according to a report.
“This is obviously not an easy decision for any of the parties involved,” White Sox Vice President and General Manager Rick Hahn said. “This isn’t about any decision-making. It’s based on where we are as an organization to put us in the best place to make that next step.
“The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience in a championship organization in recent years.”
That could also mean that former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora — who was also caught cheating with the Astros and the Red Sox — may be an option, as well. The Astros won the World Series in 2017, while the Red Sox won it in 2018.
Renteria was 236-309 during his four-year tenure with the White Sox. He guided the team to the 2020 playoffs, before losing 2-1 to the Oakland Athletics.
Due to the coronavirus 60-game MLB season, Renteria guided the White Sox to a 35-25 record. This was his lone winning record with the team.
Prior to this season, Renteria’s best season with the team was 72 wins (72-89) during the 2019 season. Prior to that, he had a 67-95 record in 2017 and a 62-100 loss record in 2018.
As a manager, Renteria is 309-398. He spent one season as the Chicago Cubs manager in 2014, guiding the team to a 73-89 record.
