One week after Kyle Larson applied for reinstatement to NASCAR, he now has his answer. He has been granted permission to resume his NASCAR career.

Larson – who has been tearing up the Sprint Car circuit since his NASCAR release – will be eligible to return on January 1, 2021. NASCAR teams – who have a need for a driver in 2021 – can begin to negotiate with him.

He was suspended by NASCAR in April after using a racial slur during a video game on Easter Sunday. Once he lost his sponsors, Chip Ganassi Racing had no choice but to release him.

The talented driver has spent the last six months since his suspension being involved in diversity programs when he was not on the road at a dirt track around the country.

“The work I’ve done over the last six months has had a major impact on me,” Larson said. “I will make the most of this opportunity and look forward to the future.”

He has worked with Tony Sanneh, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, and Max Siegel during the past six months. He also worked with the Urban Youth Racing School in Philadelphia. Jysir Fisher – one of the Urban Youth Racing School participants – celebrated with Larson following his win at Dover International Speedway last October.

“NASCAR continues to prioritize diversity and inclusion across our sport,” NASCAR said in a statement. “Kyle Larson has fulfilled the requirements set by NASCAR and has taken several voluntary measures to better educate himself so that he can work his platform to help bridge the divide in our country.”
