Steve Torrence wins 2020 Top Fuel Championship

Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot Steve Torrence is the Top Fuel Champion once again. Torrence secured the Championship before he even ran in the first round of eliminations on Saturday.

Torrence became the champion when Doug Kalitta was eliminated by Justin Ashley. Kalitta was the only competitor, who had a chance to stop Torrence.

Before Sunday’s elimination, Kalitta had 822 points. Torrence led with 925 points.

“The Influencer” Ashley won with a 3.700 at 325.61 mph pass. The Mac Tools pilot went 3.733 at 322.73 mph.

This was just the second time that Kalitta lost in the first round this season. Ashley had the lowest E.T. of the event to get the win.

Torrence celebrated his Championship after defeating Kebin Kinsley in the first-round. Torrence went 3.736 at 325.45 mph.

Kinsley went 3.937 at 285.95 mph. Torrence is now 3-0 against Kinsley.

Torrence is the first Champion in the Camping World era. He now joins his “brother” Antron Brown, Larry Dixon, along with legends Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney with three Top Fuel Championships.

The Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot has won the Championship in 2018, 2019, and 2020. He’s the first Top Fuel Champion to win at least three straight since Tony Schumacher won six straight from 2004 through 2009.
