Jim Butner Auto Group/Strutmasters Pro Stock driver Bo Butner III has joined Jason Line and Jeg Coughlin Jr. in the retirement camp. All three men have left the category following the 20th annual Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Unlike Line and Coughlin Jr. – who were eliminated in the first-round of the race – Butner went to the second round, according to Drag Race Central. He has now exited the category on a full-time basis.

This is the second time that the Floyds Knobs, Indiana stepped away. We broke that he would retire at the end of the 2018 season.

However, he eventually came back when the NHRA made changes to its 2019 schedule with fewer Pro Stock races. The veteran driver was defeated by the son of his former sponsor Nitro Fish.

Kyle Koretsky – the son of Kenny Koretsky, who owns the apparel company based in Pennsylvania – went 6.645 at 205.98 mph to get the win. Butner went 6.696 at 196.33 mph in the losing effort.

With the round win, the rookie Koretsky won both of his rounds against Butner.

“My good friend Jason Line is retiring; this is his last year,” Butner said during an appearance on WFORadio.com in August. “Jeggie [Jeg Coughlin Jr.] is also not going to be a full-time deal. Well, I am also making that same decision. I am probably going to expand my business. It’s great, and I cannot turn it down.

“Ken and Judy Black have been great to me. I am not going to any other team. I might be at a race every now and them, but as it stands now, I am not going to come back to fun anything full-time.”

Butner did not have a win in his final campaign. However, the sportsman driver at heart won four events during the 2019 season.

His final win of his career came at the second annual Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in North Dinwiddie, Virginia. Butner defeated his teammate Greg Anderson in the final round.

Butner went 6.599 at 209.01 mph to get the Wally. This was his 11th career Pro Stock wally.

Anderson went 6.607 at 210.18 mph in the losing effort.

With the 11 career Pro Stock wins, he is tied for 18th all-time, as he is tied with former racer and now engine builder Frank Iaconio and Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins.
