“It’s been a long and emotional journey, but after three whole months in the hospital, Dom has been cleared for rehab,” Matthias said in a Facebook post. “Getting to sit outside in the sun today enjoying a Saturday together is something I will never take for granted. We aren’t home yet and still have hurdles ahead, but every day we’re one step closer.

“I am so incredibly proud of my fiancée for how strong he is and how far we have come. There are blessings in every tragedy and God gave us money.”

Lagana suffered life-threatening injuries when he was seriously injured in a car accident in August. Lagana was driving the Shitbox of Doom when it veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

Richie Crampton and Jacob Sanders were with Lagana at the time of the crash. However, both Crampton and Sanders were able to leave the hospital a short time after the accident.

Sanders was released the next day. Crampton was able to leave within two weeks of the accident with a reported broken arm and a broken hip.

“I am finally able to use my phone and wanted to come on here to say thank you,” Lagana wrote in a Instagram caption in late October. “Thank you to everyone, who has supported me and my family through this difficult time. I’m just started to see some of the messages and videos that were created, and I feel so grateful. It’s a very tight knit racing community and this shows first-hand how we really are a big family. I can’t thank everybody enough. I was able to watch some of the past races online and seeing all the Lagana Strong t-shirts being worn is such a huge motivation for me.

“A very special thank you to my beautiful fiancée Sara for being with me in the hospital every day and taking care of me. And to my brother Bob for being there for me every step of the way. I know this wasn’t easy for them. I am so appreciative and couldn’t do this without them.”
