Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash has been named the 2020 American League Manager of the Year. He beat out former Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria and Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo.
Renteria – who was fired at the conclusion of the season – finished second. Montoyo finished in third place.

“When you’re being votes and appreciated by people that don’t always agree with your opinion and there can be some back-and-forth, I think it says a lot,” Cash said after winning the award. “It’s a huge honor.”

Cash guided the Rays to the World Series in 2020. Unfortunately for his team, they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6.
He wins the Award after being in third place in the ballots the past two seasons. Cash is the second Rays manager to win the award.
Joe Maddon won the award with Tampa Bay in 2008 and 2011.

Cash received 22 first-place votes. He also received five second-place votes and one third-place vote for 126 total points.
Renteria received five first-place votes. Montoyoa also received two, while Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin also had one.
The former White Sox manager also received nine second place votes and nine third place votes for 61 points. Montoyo had 10 second-place votes and seven third-place votes for 47 points.

Melvin, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli, and Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker also received votes. Melvin had 22 points, while Baldelli had 13 and Baker had one lone third-place vote.
