On Monday, McDonald tested positive for the infectious virus. One day later, star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was the biggest name of the four to go on the COVID19 contact tracing list.
Besides Big Ben, running back Jalyen Samuels, linebacker Vince Williams, and offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins also were added to the list. Right now, we do not know if these four men have tested positive for the virus.
Only McDonald is the lone confirmed case to have the virus. If these four men – Roethlisberger, Samuels, Williams, and Hawkins – continue to test negative for the next five days, they will be eligible to return on Sunday at the Cincinnati Bengals.
McDonald played for the Steelers in their come-from-behind win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9. He had 20 offensive snaps in the contest.
If Roethlisberger is unable to play, Mason Rudolph may get an opportunity to start an NFL game once again. Rudolph started during the 2019 season for the team along with Devlin “Duck” Hodges when the veteran signal-caller was lost due to a season-ending injury.
Roethlisberger has gone 8-0 in eight starts this season. He has gone 196 of 288 for 1,934 yards. He has thrown 18 touchdown passes and thrown four interceptions.
Samuels has had three carries for eight yards in 2020. He also has two receptions for five yards.
Williams has had 45 tackles, including 14 tackles for a loss and four quarterback hits. He also had 3.0 sacks and one fumble recovery.
Hawkins has appeared in six games for the Steelers as a reserve.
