The Celtics have given Hayward until Thursday to exercise his player option for the 2020-21 season. The Hawks are trying to execute a sign-and-trade to make it happen.
There was already a sign-and-trade that will become official on Friday. Bogdan Bogdanović will be moved to the Milwaukee Bucks in a sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings.
Donte DiVincenzo, Ersan İlyasova, and DJ Wilson will be moved to the Kings. DiVincenzo is the best asset of the players that will be headed to Sacramento.
It’s not clear who may go back to Boston in a package. However, Kevin Huerter, De’Andre Hunter, and Cam Reddish’s names have been mentioned as potential pieces to the deal.
If the Hawks can pull this deal off, Hayward would be a starter for the team. The 30-year-old made 52 starts for the Celtics during the 2019-20 season.
Atlanta could potentially give him an opportunity to be the team’s leading scorer. He has not had a similar role to that with the Celtics.
Hayward has not been his team’s leading scorer since he played for the Utah Jazz.
This past season, Hayward played in 52 games, including 52 starts. He averaged 17.5 points per game.
In addition, he averaged 6.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 33.5 minutes per game.
In his career, Hayward has made 641 appearances, including 479 starts. He has a career average of 15.3 points per game.
He also had 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 30.8 minutes per game.
