Anthony Edwards has been chosen by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is the second No. 1 overall pick since June 2015.

Karl-Anthony Towns was the last No. 1 overall pick by the team in 2015. Both Towns and Edwards are the lone No. 1 overall picks in franchise history.

The Timberwolves won the draft lottery in August.

Since 2007, the Timberwolves have had the worst winning percentage in the league. Minnesota hopes that this new team will change that for years to come.

Edwards joins a young core that features Towns and D’Angelo Russell. This upcoming season will be Russell’s first full season with the team after being acquired in a trade with the Golden State Warriors in February.

The latest addition is expected to be a guard in the NBA. He is expected to be in the back court with Russell.

Edwards is expected to take over the spot that was previously held by Malik Beasley. He is a free agent — and has had some legal problems with an arrest.

He joins a team that went 19-45 during the 2019-20 NBA season. The Timberwolves finished 14th in the Western Conference.

He spent one season with the Georgia Bulldogs. Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game in 32 starts.

He also averaged 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 33 minutes.
