The Boston Celtics have re-signed swingman Jayson Tatum to a contract extension. He has received a five-year extension.

This extension is worth $163 million. However, he could potentially reach up to $195 million with escalators that will turn his contract into a nearly $200 million deal.

Tatum is the third player, who has signed such a contract. The Sacramento Kings were the first to give De’Aaron Fox this such extension.

The Utah Jazz then gave Donovan Mitchell this contract, as well.

This past season, he scored a career-high 41 points in a game. This was seven points higher than the career-high 34 points that he set during the 2018-19 season.

He had 41 points twice this past season. His first 41-point performance was in a win over the New Orleans Pelicans on January 11th.

Then, Tatum scored 41 points in a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on February 23rd. In fact, he had five games, where he scored more than 34 points during the 2019-20 season.

His previous career-high before this past season was 34 points in a loss to the Brooklyn Nets on January 14, 2019.

Tatum was the third overall pick by the Celtics in the 2017 NBA Draft. The 22-year-old had a career season this past season after having a lackluster sophomore campaign.

He averaged 23.4 points per game in 66 starts during the 2019-20 season. He also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 34.3 minutes per game.

The St. Louis, Missouri-born player has started every game he has played in. He has started 225 games in his career.

Tatum has a career average of 17.3 points per game. He also averaged 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.8 blocks in 31.8 minutes per game.
