Jazz re-sign Donovan Mitchell to five-year deal through 2025-26 season

The Utah Jazz have re-signed star Donovan Mitchell. He has signed a contract with the team that could lead to a super-max contract.

He signed a five-year deal with the Jazz on Sunday. He will receive $163 million in guaranteed money.

The deal could turn into a supermax contract worth $195 million. If he is named to one of the three All-NBA teams, then it’ll increase to $195 million.

He has a 30% escalator clause in his contract. It is four years with an option for the fifth year.

This new extension will kick in with the 2021-22 season. His fourth-year option was exercised by the Jazz which will pay him $5.1 million.

Mitchell has developed into one of the best young star players in the league. He helped guide the Jazz to the playoffs all three seasons he’s been on the team.

He was a 2017 first-round draft pick by the Denver Nuggets before being traded to the Jazz. Tyler Lydon and Trey Lyles were traded to the Nuggets in the deal.

Mitchell scored a career-high 24.0 points per game in 69 starts during the 2019-20 season. He also had 4.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 34.3 minutes per game.

In the past three seasons, Mitchell has appeared in 225 games, including 217 starts. He has started every game that he has played in over the past two seasons.

He has a career average of 22.7 points per game. He is also averaging 4.1 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.3 blocks in 33.8 minutes per game.
