We have voted Bill O’Brien as our 2020 Turkey of the Year. He made one of the most bone-headed decisions ever.
As the Houston Texans head coach and general manager O’Brien traded a star-studded wide receiver for a bust. He traded a top-three wide receiver in the league in the March deal.

Yes, O’Brien traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals. You can say that the Texans got nothing back in the deal.

Sure, the Texans acquired David Johnson, a 2020 second-round draft pick (Ross Blacklock), and a 2021 fourth-round draft pick. The Cardinals also acquired a 2020 fourth-round draft pick (Rashard Lawrence).
This is one of the most stupid trades in NFL history. And the Texans are learning that right now that it was a huge mistake.
Ok, Hopkins wanted to be paid. O’Brien could have done that to keep him, but instead, he got turkeys for a player, who has a good chance of being in the Hall of Fame one day.
Hopkins did eventually get paid — and he got $54.5 million in new money added to his contract.
The 28-year-old Hopkins is excelling in his first year with the Cardinals. He is leading the league with 912 receiving yards through the first 10 games.
He is on pace to have his best career season in 2020. He needs 660 yards over the final six games to tie his career-high 1,572 yards during the 2018 season with the Texans.
For some reason, Hopkins has been trading one game over 100 receiving yards with one game below 100 receiving yards each game this season. He’s on pace to have his next big game on Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Johnson – who has just had one good season in his career in 2016 when he had a career-high 1,239 rushing yards – has just 408 rushing yards. The 408 rushing yards are 28th in the league in terms of rushing yards.
He has not had a game for 100 yards this season. He had one game that was close with 96 rushing yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a 30-14 win on October 11th.
If you remove the 96-yardage game, Johnson has one other game in which he had more than 65 yards this season. He had 77 rushing yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in a loss in the season-opener.
Johnson did not even play for the Texans on Thanksgiving Day in their win over the Detroit Lions. He has a concussion.
Blacklock has done absolutely nothing since being drafted by the Texans. He has just 10 tackles, including one tackle for a loss and one quarterback hit.
This trade may go down in NFL history as one of the worst with the Herschel Walker trade. This was the largest deal in league history.
On October 12, 1989, Walker was traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Minnesota Vikings. The San Diego Chargers were also involved in the deal.
The Cowboys acquired Jesse Solomon, David Howard, Issaic Holt, Alex Stewart, Minnesota’s first-round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, Minnesota’s second-round draft pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, and Minnesota’s sixth-round draft pick in the 1990 NFL Draft.
In addition, the Cowboys also acquired the Vikings first-round draft pick in the 1991 and 1992 NFL Drafts. They also acquired the Vikings second-round draft picks in the 1991 and 1992 NFL Drafts.

Plus, they also received a third-round draft pick by the Vikings in the 1992 NFL Draft.
The Cowboys used the draft picks to select Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith, Russell Maryland, Kevin Smith, Darren Woodson, and Clayton Holmes. Dallas also acquired Stan Smagala and Alonzo Highsmith using the draft picks received in the Walker deal.
The Vikings received Walker, the Cowboys’ third-round draft pick and 10th-round draft pick in the 1990 NFL Draft. In addition, they received the San Diego Chargers fifth-round draft pick in the 1990 NFL Draft and the Cowboys third-round draft pick in the 1991 NFL Draft.
The Chargers received Darrin Nelson.
