Bogdanović signs his free agent paperwork with the Hawks

Free agent Bogdan Bogdanović officially signed his contract with the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday. He received a four-year, $72 million deal. 

He became a member of the Hawks when the Sacramento Kings elected not to match his offer sheet. The restricted free agent will now suit up for the Hawks beginning on December 22nd.

“New Chapter Atlanta Hawks,” Bogdanović said in an Instagram post. “I’m super excited for the new opportunity, new challenges and new goals. Can’t wait for the season to start, and show the world how good I am in this game. I didn’t come here just to be here! Let’s get it Atlanta #truetoAtlanta”

The team’s starting 2020-21 lineup is expected to include Tray Young and Kevin Huerter at the two guard positions. Bogdanović and John Collins are expected to be the two forwards.

Clint Capela — who was acquired in a February trade — is expected to be the starting center.

This is Bogdanović’s second NBA team. He spent three seasons with the Kings.

He was a first-round draft pick by the Phoenix Suns in the 2014 NBA Draft. Then, two-years later, the Suns traded his draft rights with Skal Labissière, Georgios Papagiannis and a 2020 2nd round draft pick to the Sacramento Kings for Marquese Chriss.

During the 2019-20 season, Bogdanović averaged a career-high 15.1 points per game. In addition, he averaged 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 29.0 minutes per game.

He has appeared in 209 games, including 98 starts. He has averaged 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 28.2 minutes per game.
