According to the Montréal Gazette, the Montréal Impact will have a new name for the 2021 Major League Soccer season. They’ll use a familiar name.
The team will be known as Montréal FC. The FC stands for Football Club.
The MLS team has been known has the Montréal Impact except for two seasons since the team launched in 1993. The two seasons in question was 2015 and 2016 when the team played in the USL.
When the team played in the USL, they were known as Montréal FC.
Once the name change becomes official, they’ll be the fifth team in the Eastern Conference to have FC in their names. They’ll join fellow Canadian team in Toronto FC.
In addition, other Eastern Conference teams with FC in their names include Atlanta United FC, Chicago Fire FC, FC Cincinnati, and New York City FC.
There are currently six teams in the Western Conference that also have FC in their names. Included in that is two Texas-based teams in FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo FC.
Other teams, who have FC in their names include, Los Angeles FC, Minnesota United FC, Seattle Sounders FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
