The Houston Rockets have traded point guard Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards. In exchange, the Rockets received point guard John Wall and a first-round draft pick.
The two sides talked about this deal previously. However, the talks broke off with no deal the first-time around.
Since the two players have identical contracts, it was easier to do a one-for-one swap.
The talks for this deal began this afternoon. Then, after a few hours, the deal was done.
The 32-year-old Long Beach, California born player averaged 27.2 points in his first season with the Rockets. He also had 7.9 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 1.6 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 35.9 minutes per game.
The 27.2 points per game was his best season since he had 31.6 points per game during his 2016-17 season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The 30-year-old Wall has been out since the 2018-19 season. He made 32 starts that season, before suffering a season-ending injury.
In those 32 games, he averaged 20.7 points per game.
When Wall played, he played in 73 games over his past two seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He has not played nearly a full season since the 2016-17 season when he played in 78 games.
The Raleigh, North Carolina born player had his best season when he scored a career-high 23.1 points per game during the 2016-17 season.
