Lions’ Jeff Okudah needs season-ending groin surgery

The Detroit Lions will finish the season without their 2020 first-round draft pick. Jeff Okudah will undergo season-ending groin surgery, according to the Detroit Free Press.

He will miss the final four games of the season. Okudah is expected to have surgery on Tuesday.

This injury has reportedly been bothering him before he was an NFL player. The situation reportedly has been “nagging him since his days at Ohio State and slowly gotten worse this season.”

Okudah has missed the past two weeks with a shoulder injury. He was the No. 3 overall pick, but has only started six games this season.

He last played in a game against the Carolina Panthers on November 22nd. Okudah had seven tackles, including one tackle for a loss.

Okudah appeared in 24 defensive snaps. That was 34% of the team’s defensive snaps.

In the last three games that he played in, Okudah did not receive even 50% of the team’s defensive snaps. The highest he received was 45% of the defensive snaps against the Minnesota Vikings in a loss on November 8th.

During the season-opener, Okudah appeared in every defensive snap. He saw 73 defensive snaps in the first game of his rookie season.

However, since that time, Okudah has not saw higher than 98% of the defensive snaps in a game. He appeared in 98% of the defensive snaps in a 41-21 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on November 1st.

Five of the nine games that he’s played in, Okudah saw action in more than 90% of the team’s defensive snaps.

He has had 47 tackles, including four tackles for a loss. He also has one interception and two pass deflections.
