Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence will attempt to be the first player in school history to win the Heisman Trophy. He has been selected as a Heisman Trophy finalist.

In addition, Alabama Crimson Tide teammates Mac Jones and DeVonta Smith were also named as a finalist.

The 2020 Heisman Trophy ceremony will be held on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021 on ESPN at 7 pm. The winner will be announced around 7:50 pm EST.

The event is being held virtually this year.

Lawrence was the preseason favorite for the award. Things were going good for Lawrence until he contracted the coronavirus.

This caused him to miss two games with the infectious virus. Will that hurt him? We’ll see.

The talented signal-caller is just the second Clemson player to be a Heisman Trophy finalist besides Deshaun Watson.

In 2016, Watson finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting. Former Louisville Cardinals quarterback Lamar Jackson won the award that year.

Watson was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist.

The junior quarterback — who is projected to be the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft — has gone 198 of 286 for 2,753 yards. He also had 22 touchdown passes and four interceptions.

In addition, Lawrence also has had 58 carries for 211 rushing yards. He also had seven rushing touchdowns.
