The San Diego Padres have officially announced their acquisition of right-handed pitcher Yu Darvish and catcher Victor Caratini. The Chicago Cubs received one MLB ready player in right-handed pitcher Zach Davies and four prospects.
The prospects include shortstops Reginald Preciado and Yeison Santana and outfielders Owen Caissie and Ismael Mena. The deal became official when the teams completed their medical reviews.

The Padres also announced on Tuesday their acquisition of pitcher Blake Snell. Both Snell and Darvish are expected to lead the Padres starting rotation in 2021.

San Diego has become the first team in MLB history to receive two players via trades that won the Cy Young in the prior three years in one off-season. In fact, the Padres were able to make the deals within 24 hours without giving up their top 10 prospects.
Darvish is now on his fourth MLB team. He spent the last three seasons with the Cubs. He also played for the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This past season, he went 8-3 with a 2.01 ERA in 12 starts. He allowed 18 runs (17 earned runs), including 5 home runs, in 76 innings. Darvish also allowed 93 strikeouts and 14 walks.

In his career, Darvish has gone 71-56 in 182 starts. He also has two complete games and one shutout.
The Japanese pitcher has allowed 461 runs (434 earned runs), including 137 home runs on 909 hits over 1,127 innings. He has struck out 1,392 batters and walked 398.
Caratini will be joining his second MLB team in his fifth season. He has spent the last four seasons with the Cubs.

In 2020, he had a .241 batting average with one home run and 16 RBIs in 44 games. He also had seven doubles.
The Puerto Rico native has a .250 batting average in 246 games. He has 15 career home runs and 73 RBIs in 600 at-bats.
He has 150 career hits and has scored 68 runs. Caratini has 28 doubles, as well.

Davies will be going to his third MLB team in his seventh year in the league. He spent five seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers, before joining the Padres for the 2020 season.
He went 7-4 with a 2.73 ERA in 12 starts this past season. Davis allowed 26 runs (21 earned runs), including nine home runs, on 55 hits over 69 1/3rd innings. He also had 63 strikeouts and 19 walks.
