Pittsburgh Panthers redshirt senior Phil Campbell III has announced that he will return to the team next season. The linebacker had the option to return thanks to the NCAA giving these 2020-21 academic year athletes another year of eligibility.
His decision to put off the NFL is good news for Panthers fans. His decision to put off the NFL gives Pat Narduzzi’s coaching staff more depth and a very talented defensive player for the 2021 season.

“On that note, I’ve decided to utilize the extra year of eligibility and return to my Pitt Panther team for the 2021 season,” Campbell III said in an Instagram post. “The decision was not made lightly, but I do think it’s the right decision for me at this time. I’d like to thank my former teammates for the experiences shared and wish them well. I also would like to thank my current teammates for patience with me while I pondered this decision. And to my family, thank you for all your support.”
