Justin Ashley Racing has announced that Mike Green will be their tuner for the 2021 season. Green replaces Aaron Brooks, who had been Ashley’s tuner.

Brooks guided the 2020 NHRA Rookie of the Year to his first career win in 2020. Ashley defeated T.J. Zizzo in the final round of the delayed Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals at Indianapolis at the prestigious Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana.

“Adding Mike Green to our team provides us with an opportunity to take our program to the next level,” Ashley — who is sponsored by Strutmasters, Auto Shocker and Manscaped, said. “Mike is a championship winning crew chief with a championship winning mentality. It is a perfect fit. I am grateful to Mike for deciding to join our racing family. I am looking forward to learning from his invaluable knowledge and experience throughout the season. Our goal is to race together for many years to come.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect and gratitude for Aaron on a personal and professional level. I have known Aaron for a long time and my feelings about him will never change. He’s an outstanding crew chief and a great person. We accomplished a lot together during a short period of time. I am looking forward to watching him have continued success in the sport for years to come.”

Green comes to Justin Ashley Racing after spending the 2020 season with two rival teams. He began the season as the tuner for the Montana Brand/Rocky Mountain Twist dragster that was piloted by Austin Prock. Then, when John Force Racing shut down their racing season due to the coronavirus pandemic, Green accepted a new opportunity.

He reunited with his long-time pilot Tony Schumacher beginning in July when the eight-time champion returned to the sport after a year and a half away. After two races, DSR then worked out an agreement to keep Green and Schumacher for six additional races.

“Justin’s attitude is great and he has been racing for a few years,” Green said. “He has a great ability and he has proven himself. I just really love his attitude and how dedicate he is to driving. I worked with Tony Schumacher for a long-0timeand there is a lot to driving these race cars. There is the burnout, how you back up, staging and everything else once you take the tree.

“Justin has been really good at all of it. I am looking forward to working with him, Dustin Davis, and the rest of the team.”

Green has also been employed by Don Prudhomme Racing, Darrell Gwynn Racing, and Joe Gibbs Racing. He has 50 wins as a tuner in his career in Top Fuel with an additional nine in Funny Car.
