Johnny Gray, a former NHRA Funny Car and Pro Stock driver, has joined forces with NASCAR driver David Gilliland. They have forced the team David Gilliland Racing for the 2021 season.

Gilliland was previously with a team called DGR-Crosley. That was a partnership between David Gilliland Racing and Crosley Sports Group.

Gray would be the co-owner of the team now with this announcement. Despite not being in the team’s name anymore, Bo LeMastus, who is the former co-owner and CEO of Crosley Brands, he’ll remain on in a marketing and sponsorship capacity, according to the press release.

Gray was a competitive racer from 1993 through his retirement from the NHRA at the end of the 2013 season.

“I have been a part of DGR for the past two years with my grandsons, Tanner and Taylor Gray, and I’m impressed with the growth and progress the team has made in such a short amount of time,” Johnny Gray said. “Being able to invest in a growing organization is a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to being a part of helping the drivers reach their full potential.”

Tanner Gray, the former NHRA Pro Stock Champion, transitioned to NASCAR for the 2019 season. Gray has competed in 26 Camping World Truck Series events, including 23 in 2020.

All 26 have come with David Gilliland Racing. He’s also competed in 14 ARCA Menards East Series events with the team, as well.

He also competed in 12 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East events, as well, since he made the transition.

The 15-year-old Taylor Gray has competed in 12 ARCA Menards East Series races in 2020. He also competed in five ARCA Menards West Series events, as well, including one win.

David Gilliland Racing also includes drivers Hailie Deegan and Thad Moffitt. All the drivers will be working with Ford Performance.

“Johnny Gray is an astute businessman and a racer at heart,” Gilliland said. “Having him invest in our team will help us continue to enhance our program and level of competition. We have developed a great relationship with Johnny and his family in the past two years and I believe his involvement will really benefit our team and drivers. The name may have changed, but our goal remains the same, which is to win. “I also have to thank Bo LeMastus for all of his support throughout the years. I’m happy he is still going to be a big part of the team on the marketing side continuing our Crosley Brands relationship. He has been a great business partner and an even better friend.”
