Michael “Buddy” Kofoid has won the first round of the Schaeffer’s Wild Wing Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts on Friday night at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley, Arizona. The AME Electrical Sprint Car driver won just days after competing in the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 19-year-old Kofoid began the A feature from the first position. With the win, Kofoid took home the $7,000 prize.

The drivers will compete for two additional events. The Wild Wing Shootout will go through Sunday at the Arizona facility.

Also, the Toyota Racing driver started and finished his heat race in the No. 1 spot.

Kofoid was able to win the A-Main in a star-studded field. Donny Schatz, Aaron Reutzel, Lance Dewease, Rico Abreu, Tony Stewart, and the legend Sammy Swindell were also in the field.

Schatz — the World of Outlaws ace — took his No. 15 entry to the runner-up position. Carson Macedo — who is taking over Jason Johnson Racing’s 2021 entry from David Gravel — finished third.

Aaron Reutzel and Lance Dewease rounded out the Top 5. Sprint Car legend Swindell finished last on the evening in his 56 entry.
