UFC 257 McGregor vs. Poirier 2 preview

One of the biggest UFC competitors returns to the Octagon on Saturday. Yes, the man — who has retired from the sport numerous times over the last several years. 

Conor McGregor will fight Dustin Poirier in their second fight in their series. It’ll go down on Saturday at UFC 257 in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

McGregor and Poirier are the main event on the card. Presently, McGregor is the favorite, according to Sports Betting Dime with -315 odds.

These two men agreed to the fight back in October 2020.

These two competitors first met more than six years ago. When they went to battle on September 27, 2014, in UFC 178, McGregor won with a first round TKO.

The 32-year-old McGregor brings a 22-4 MMA record into this mega fight. When he returns on Saturday, it’ll be the first time he fought in more than a year.

He defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 on January 18, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Dublin, Ireland defeated Cerrone by a first-round TKO. 

McGregor has not lost in the Octagon since his mega fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Those two fighters left their beef go further than Nurmagomedov’s win on October 6, 2018, in Las Vegas, as there was a massive brawl after their bout. 

Nurmagomedov has hinted that he would come out of retirement for a fighter competing in this card. The likelihood — if the UFC can pull this off — is McGregor and Nurmagomedov maybe this summer.

Since his first loss to Nate Díaz at UFC 176 in March 2016, McGregor is 3-1 in his last four fights. 

The 32-year-old Lafayette, Louisiana native is 26-6 in his MMA career. Poirier had nearly a sixth-month break, as he last fought on June 27, 2020. 

Poirier and Dan Hooker went the distance in the main event of their UFC on ESPN 12 bout. After the bout went to the judges, Poirier was award the win by unanimous decision.

Both McGregor and Poirier have a loss to Nurmagomedov since 2018. At UFC 242, Poirier was defeated by submission (rear-naked choke) on September 7, 2019. 

Since McGregor’s first win over Poirier, the American Top Team fighter has gone 10-2-1.
