The two teams will compete at Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The game will be on CBS at 6:30 pm EST.
According to Sports Betting Dime, the Chiefs are the favorite to win the Super Bowl. Kansas City is giving Tampa Bay three points.
The Buccaneers are the first team in NFL history to host the Super Bowl. Also, the Chiefs are looking to become the first repeat winner in the Super Bowl since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots.
Kansas City defeated the San Francisco 49ers last February at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. When the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, it was their first Super Bowl win in 50-years.
The win by the Chiefs came almost a year after Brady’s New England Patriots defeated the Chiefs in the 2019 AFC Championship Game. Brady found Mahomes II after the game and they had a discussion.
“It was important because it showed I was doing things the right way,” Mahomes said while reflecting on the conversation. “As a young quarterback in this league, you show up early and you try to put in the time and put in the work. …
“Him saying that he respected what I was doing and how I was playing on the field and the type of person I was, it kind of put a stamp on me that I needed to go in and even be better to get to the Super Bowl.”
If the Chiefs win, Andy Reid will be the oldest coach to win two straight Super Bowls. Reid is 62.
“I’m still part of the ‘Geritol Crew’ and we are a little bit older, and there is an experience that comes with that and I guess they say wisdom with age,” Reid said this week. “By chance, a few of the older guys have gotten to this point. I attribute that to good players and then a little bit of experience there.”
If the Buccaneers win, Bruce Arians will be the oldest coach to win a Super Bowl at 68.
This is the second Super Bowl in Buccaneers history. They defeated the Oakland Raiders in the final game of the 2002 season at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California.
The Chiefs are 2-1 in the final game of the season. This will be their fourth Super Bowl appearance.
Tampa Bay leads the all-time series 7-6. Before the 27-24 loss on November 29th, 2020 in Tampa, Florida, the Buccaneers had won five straight in the series from 1999 through 2016.
Also, the Buccaneers have scored 267 points in the series. The Chiefs have scored 260 points.
Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady went 401 of 610 for 4,633 yards. He threw 40 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in the regular season.
In the playoffs, the future Hall of Famer went 60 of 109 for 860 yards. He has thrown seven touchdown passes and three interceptions.
“My life has taken certainly a lot of different directions,” Brady said. “I’m older now. I’ve got a family. A lot of incredible blessings in my life. Fast-forward 21 years, sitting in Tampa and trying to win a Super Bowl in our home stadium would be pretty sweet.”
Ronald Jones II led the team with 192 carries for 978 yards and seven touchdowns. In the playoffs; however, Leonard Fournette has been the workhorse with 48 carries for 211 yards and a touchdown.
Mike Evans led the Buccaneers with 70 receptions for 1,006 yards and 13 touchdowns. Evans, Chris Godwin, and Cameron Brate led the team in receiving yards in all three of their playoff wins.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II went 370 of 588 for 4,740 yards. He also had 38 touchdown passes and six interceptions.
Rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire had 181 carries for 803 yards and four touchdowns. Travis Kelce also led the team with 105 receptions for 1,416 yards and 11 touchdowns.
In the postseason, Mahomes II has gone 50 of 68 for 580 yards. He has thrown four touchdown receptions.
Darrell Williams led the team with 26 carries for 130 yards and one touchdown. Kelce also has 21 receptions for 227 yards and three touchdowns.
