The San Diego Padres have locked up their young stud to what may turn out to be a baseball lifetime deal. The Padres have signed shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. to a long-term deal.

He signed a 14-year deal with the Padres on Wednesday night. It’ll be worth $340 million.

His deal also includes a full no-trade clause. There is also $0 deferred money.

This long-term deal is the longest in Major League Baseball history. Previously, Giancarlo Stanton and Bryce Harper have signed 13-year deals with the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies respectively.

Mike Trout has the largest money deal in MLB history, as he signed a 12-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels in 2019. His deal is worth $426.5 million.

In the past two seasons, Tatis Jr. has developed into a young superstar. This past season, he won a Silver Slugger Award.

The 22-year-old Dominican Republic native was originally signed through the 2024 season. However, this deal pushes back his free agency.

The son of former MLB player Fernando Tatis has had 39 home runs and 98 RBIs through 143 MLB games. He also has a .301 batting average.

In 2020, he missed just one game, as he appeared in 59 games. He finished fourth in the MVP last season.

Also, Tatis Jr. has 24 doubles and eight triples in 168 hits.

This past season, he helped guided the Padres to the playoffs. The team snapped their 13-year playoff drought after the front office elected to make several transactions to make them a playoff contender.

San Diego won a Wild Card Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Padres were then eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.
