The Houston Rockets are planning to release center DeMarcus Cousins. The move is expected to happen in the coming days.

Cousins signed a one-year deal with the Rockets in the off-season. He clashed with James Harden before the superstar was traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

He said that he came to Houston to play with John Wall, who was acquired in a blockbuster deal in the off-season. In exchange, Russell Westbrook went to the Washington Wizards.

The Rockets want to give more playing time to younger players. The team is expected to do this when Christian Wood returns from his injury.

Once Cousins is released, he will be eligible to sign with any other team interested in signing him. He may try to sign with a playoff contender to add depth to their roster.

Wherever Cousins lands, it’ll be his fifth NBA team. He began his career with the Sacramento Kings.

He was then traded to the New Orleans Pelicans. Cousins also played a season with the Golden State Warriors.

Since signing with Houston, Cousins has played in 25 games. However, most of those appearances were off the bench.

He has made 11 starts this season.

He returned this season following a torn ACL injury that cost him the entire 2019-20 season.

Cousins has averaged 9.6 points per game. He’s also averaging 7.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 20.2 minutes per game.
