Throwback: Dolphins defeat Chiefs in 1972 Game 1 of Perfect Season

In this Throwback story, we’ll look back on the first game of the last perfect season in NFL history. The 1972 Miami Dolphins had the last perfect season.

The Dolphins defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 20-10 in this game. The game was played at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Dolphins quarterback Bob Griese went 8 of 15 for 111 yards. He also had one touchdown pass and one interception.

Larry Csonka led the team with 21 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. Paul Warfield had two receptions for 49 yards.

Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson went 22 of 33 for 237 yards. He had one touchdown pass and two interceptions.

Ed Podolak led the Chiefs with 13 carries for 81 yards. Otis Taylor had four receptions for 69 yards.

Griese hit Marlin Briscoe for a touchdown reception. Csonka also scored a rushing touchdown.

Garo Yapremian also made two field goals.

Dawson hit Willie Frazier for a touchdown reception. Jan Stenerud also made a field goal.
