Los Angeles Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani was removed from Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Angels general manager Perry Minasian said that Ohtani has a blister in his right middle finger.

Minasian believes that the team “caught it early.” Ohtani reportedly began dealing with the blister in his previous outing.

Despite having a blister, Ohtani may be fine for his first start of the 2021 MLB season that begins on April 1st. Ohtani is currently listed as the team’s fifth starter.

Also, the blister should not impact him as a batter when he swings the bat.

He allowed seven innings through 2 1/3 innings against the Dodgers. He also walked five batters.

Angels manager Joe Maddon plans to have a sixth-man starting rotation once the season starts. That gives Ohtani more time to recover from the blister.

If Ohtani remains the fifth starter, his first start of the season is expected to come on Monday, April 5th against the Houston Astros at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, California.
