A racer has died on Saturday at Sumter Speedway in Sumter, South Carolina. Little details have come out so far regarding the death.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the driver was competing in a race then experienced a medical emergency. Following the race, the driver crashed vehicle they were driving.
It’s not clear if the driver was a man or woman at this time.
They were then transported to a local hospital for medical attention, before succumbing to their injuries.
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office said that the driver died of natural causes. At this time, the identification of this driver has not been released.
According to the track’s Facebook page, Saturday was their first event of the season. The event began their 64th season hosting events at the track.
The event featured late models and a variety of other categories. The Southeastern Modified Series competed at the event.
The track has not commented regarding the driver’s death on their social media channels. They may post more information in the coming days if the driver competed at “The Toughest Lil’ Dirt Track in the South” regularly.
