Torrence wins 2021 Denso Four-Wide Wally on Mother’s birthday

Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot Steve Torrence went into the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals as a father for the first time. And he won a Wally for his daughter Haven, who was born on April 7th.

It was also extra special, as the win came on his mother Kay’s birthday. And it came one day after his birthday on Saturday.

The Kilgore, Texas native won his first race of the 2021 season at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. Torrence defeated Antron Brown, Clay Millican, and Doug Kalitta in the final quad.

Torrence went 3.823 at 321.73 mph to become the second Top Fuel winner of the season. Technet and Burnyzz sponsored driver Josh Hart won his first career race in the category at his home track at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida in March.

“There’s nothing better than being a dad, and happy birthday to my mom, and we had Dom Lagana standing on the starting line with me. There’s a lot of cool stuff that happened,” Torrence said. “I’m taking my little girl home her very first Wally. We had to work hard to get it done, but we got it done and I’m proud of it.”

Torrence secured his first Wally since AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals last October.
