According to The Cris Collinsworth Podcast with Richard Sherman, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL. He is ‘expecting to play Game 1.’

The second-year quarterback also said that he plans to take part in the team’s upcoming practices. At this time, it is not clear when he’ll be able to rejoin his teammates.

The 2020 No. 1 overall pick is less than six months into his recovery from his November 2020 injury. He tore his MCL and ACL in Week 11 against the Washington Football Team.

He had successful surgery on December 2nd, 2020. When it was announced he destroyed his knee, his 2021 season was in doubt at the time.

Recently, Burrow began throwing a football. However, he has not been cleared to roll out and throw the football yet.

With these words from Burrow, there is optimism that Burrow will be back on the field to lead the Bengals in September. If he’s cleared, he’ll return to the field less than one year out from his surgery.

He was having an elite level before being shut down. He had 2,688 passing yards through 10 games.

The 24-year-old had a losing record in his first campaign with a 2-7-1 record as a starter. However, he had five games, where he passed for more than 300 yards.

He had a career-high 406 passing yards in a 37-34 loss to the Cleveland Browns on October 25th. He had 300 or more passing yards in Weeks 2-4, then again during the games in Week 6 and 7.

In the final game of his rookie season, he had 203 passing yards before departing with the injury. He also had a touchdown pass against the Washington Football Team.

If Burrow is not able to start right away, head coach Zac Taylor will have to account for Brandon Allen or Kyle Shurmur as their starting quarterback until their franchise signal-caller can return.
