UFC welterweight Kamara Usman retained his belt in the main event of UFC 261 on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida. Usman defeated Jorge Masvidal at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
Usman showed off in the UFC’s first event with fans in attendance since the lockdowns last year. 15,000 were able to purchase tickets to the event.
The fight ended at 1:02 in the second round with Usman getting the knockout win. He won by KO (Punches).
A right end by Usman ended the fight before Herb Dean called off the fight due to hammerfists that completely ended the fight.
With the win, Usman has improved to 19-1 in his MMA career. This is his ninth knockout in his career.
He has won 18 straight bouts, including 14 straight in the UFC. “The Nigerian Nightmare” defeated Masvidal in two of his past three fights.
In July 2020, Masvidal lost to Usman by unanimous decision on Fight Island. The Miami, Florida native accepted the fight on a six-day notice.
Usman has won his past two fights by knockout. He also knocked out Gilbert Burns in February by TKO (Punches) at UFC 258.
“Gambred” fell to 35-15 with the loss. He has lost his past two fights to Usman. UFC President Dana White will now have to find what to do with Masvidal next following these two losses.
In 2019, he was on a three-fight win streak. For this win streak, he was named the organization’s Fighter of the Year.
